The Future Now

This morning, as I walked to work, I took out a pair of headphones and pulled up an episode of "My Little Ponies: Friendship Is Magic" to watch while I was walking.

I thought about two things while I did this. First, I'm kinda old for this cartoon.

Second: that watching cartoons while walking is exactly what my ten year-old self thought the future ought to include. Inside of me, she's smiling.

I've never really thought about the future in concrete terms, as in 'here's what it's going to be like when I'm older'. I think I expected a robot holocaust, honestly.

The other day for some reason, I was thinking back to being a kid in the 80s, and a suddenly remembered just how much everyone smoked back then. Like, it was a constant everywhere. I hadn't realized just how drastic the difference was to the present day until I really gave it some thought. I guess it happened so gradually that I never even noticed.

Heh heh. =) Well, no Blade-Runner-style spinner cars or interplanetary tourism yet, but at least we're awfully close to Dick Tracy 2-way wrist TVs. And the new MLP is cool. I'm sad to hear that Lauren Faust is leaving the show. =(
