I have. Twice.

Owning a house makes the idea of doing it again now rather daunting, but I'd be willing to. (Buying a house was pretty traumatic, and I have the feeling selling it will be much, much worse. I don't think I'll go through the homeownership thing again if/when I sell this one.)

I'm not sure I'd uproot my life and move to another *apartment*.

Benjamin Franklin once said, "two removes equals one fire," in terms of the effect upon one's life.

Katayamma's fire a few years ago cost him most of his possessions. And I've just come through a move a few months ago that we've not recovered from yet — though in my mind, a fire would have been ... twice as bad. (Actually, rather worse than that.)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about home ownership. I know it's supposed to be the American dream, but it stresses me out. I think I'd rather rent.

(Which doesn't mean I'd wish ill on my current house, of course.)

I did it 4 times. The last time I didn't move until I had found a job in the new city, so it was about 6 months that our marriage was long distance. About a week after I moved the last time, she told me that she wished I hadn't moved.

Those four moves were all during my first marriage. We divorced about 8 months after I made that last move.

She eventually moved to Texas (where she still is) and I remained in Kansas - 26 years so far.
