Even when I was a teen, I never have been one to get a crush on an actor or a rockstar, though I tried a couple of times. But I sometimes fell in love with fictional characters. I remember being absolutely crazy about KITT, from the dreadful 80's show "Knightrider", with his sleek black shape and oh, that wonderful voice. And Morgan, from Katherine Kurtz's Deryni books, back when they were a trilogy and not a series. Those were the most memorable ones, but there are more. I know I've got a soft spot for some of Diana Wynne Jones' protagonists, like the Wizard Howl from Howl's Moving Castle, and Chrestomanci from Charmed Life. There were doubtless more, a unicorn or dragon or cat that I really adored and wanted for my own, in some platonic yet no less passionate way.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, and I'm curious: who else among you has harbored a longing for some fictional person or entity? Which ones?

*chuckle*

I've had one or two embarrassments like that, where my lack of television has caused me to be unaware of (or at least unfamiliar with) a new friend's performances. It worked out the other way one time, though, when I met John de Lancie and we talked about his Shakespearean roles rather than that "Q" thing.

But I remember, many decades ago, being quite fond of Diana Rigg as "Emma Peel" from The Avengers and later "Mrs. James Bond" from On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

But much more recently, there are fictional characters that I've been fond enough of to write extensively about -- and one of them, "Dr. Jenny Curtis" -- was created by you.

And I'm still rather fond of Eve from WALL•E, and have tried to tell her story.
