Eliyahu is leaving tonight. I'm taking them to the airport in about two hours. I'm not sure what they're doing right now. I think they finished packing? So maybe they're praying. Oh right, they're plucking their face. I dismounted the mirror from the jewelry armoire so they could use it; you'd think I'd remember.
I finished reading the 4th novella in The Murderbot Diaries this morning. Back when the first Murderboit novel came out in 2020, Tor.com did a giveaway for all four novellas. I picked them up then but never read them because I don't read all that much. I don't know why I decided to read one during the September trip to my parents this year, but that's how I got started on the series.
After I finished the last novella I already owned, I checked the list price for the novel. $12 for the ebook. I can definitely afford to spend $12 on an ebook but my penurious soul rebels. I checked Hoopla. Hoopla had a short story that came right after the 4th novella and that didn't have a "buy" link on Wells' website (maybe I could find it on Tor.com, idk). I checked out the short story, read it, and then looked for the novel. The novel was also on Hoopla -- I think the whole series is -- but only as an audiobook.
I haven't listened to much in the way of audiobooks. The few I've tried were "whatever was available at the library when I checked in the early 2000s." It didn't go very well. I've been meaning to try again. I checked out the audiobook of Network Effect.
So far, I have listened to the first two chapters while drawing Apothecaria entries. That works pretty well as long as I have an Apothecaria entry to draw, but now I've run out. I should be writing more, but I'm at the point of feeling too constrained by the journal format. I don't want to skip days because the characters so rarely have, but I also only have a few events left that I really want to write. Maybe I'll skip some days anyway.
