Ask the Internet Braintrust
Sep. 24th, 2014 08:40 amAnyone happen to know how you get an iPodTouch 8 to download all of your existing music from your computer onto the iPodTouch 8, so that the iPod can play it without needing a wireless connection? With my eight-year old and much-mourned iPod, "sync" did this. It's not clear what effect if any syncing the iPodTouch8 with iTunes on my computer had, but apparently "download music" is not among the effects.
(And I know I should ask Google, but I am at the point of wanting to turn the box upside down and read the answer instead of trying to solve the puzzle. -_-)

Date: 2014-09-24 06:19 pm (UTC)Assuming iTunes recognizes the device, it should be a matter of selecting the device (upper-right-ish corner of the main iTunes page), selecting the 'Music' page, checking 'sync music', and then hitting 'sync'. I think iTunes defaults to not really syncing much, so you probably need to explicitly tell it to do the music.
(I couldn't find any reason you'd explicitly need a wireless connection for anything... maaaaaybe for music with DRM, for license-checking, but I think not even then, and certainly not for MP3s and whatnot. You can't use the app store on the device without wireless, and that kind of thing, but that should be completely not-applicable to just being able to play music.)
