The F.A.T.A.L review. Warning: contains a LOT of foul language. It is very funny except when it hurts your brain and makes you want to scream, cry, and claw your own eyes out to STOP THE HURTING. You might want to just read the first bit, laugh, and then stop while you're still capable of thinking maybe it's just a big joke.

But IT'S NOT.

I got this link from broken toys, and as Scott Jennings put it: "Even reading the review made me feel unclean."

I am still trying to scrub that out of my brain, several days later. Makes me ashamed to be a rpg author...

I find myself wanting to download the pdf, just to see that it is not, in fact, some horrible April Fool's prank gone terribly, terribly wrong.

And, really, it ought to make you feel good about yourself about being an RPG author. I mean, whatever flaws WorldTree might have as a system, it's got to be about ten gazillion times better than that.

I did. If it's a prank, they put an insane amount of effort into it. (In any case, they put an insane amount of effort into it, and I use the word "insane" in a more literal sense than usual.) It's almost a thousand pages ... not terribly dense, but not that light. It can't be fewer words than World Tree, which is a quarter of a million. It doesn't seem to be automatically generated. It doesn't read like a prank, or the parts I read didn't.

And yes, World Tree is a good deal better.

Even the review was an awful lot of effort, when you think about it. Brr. I want to write an email to the reviewers, but I'm not sure whether to thank them (I spent much of last night laughing over it, and I didn't even finish it) or ask them "WHY? FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, WHY?"

The Synnibar (?) review was pretty funny, too. I think I'll have to look at their other reviews some time ... but I don't think anything could possibly top this one. O.o

At least, I REALLY HOPE NOT.
