Crackling Dragons

This is unlikely to be of interest to anyone but FlightRising players, but for the curious --

Flight Rising added a new gene (read: modification to your dragon's appearance) last week. I finally got a copy of it and previewed it on all of my dragons. Behind the cut is previews of it on all of the dragons that it didn't look completely hideous on. This is fewer than I expected. I would have done "dragons it's actually an improvement on" if there were more than, like, four of those. Out of my 80+ dragons.



I was surprised that even many of the dragons with tertiary colors that I generally would consider complimentary still don't look good in crackle.

From an investment standpoint, I ought to put it on one of the wildclaws (the T-Rex-looking ones) or imperials (the ones with mostly-straight antlers).

From an aesthetic standpoint, I like it best on the two throwaway faes with dark base colors and red or orange crackling. -_- The blue wildclaw with the black crackling looks pretty good. Though anyone I give it to will need a new mate because none of the ones that look decent with it have mates with well-suited tertiaries. And then their current mate will need a new mate. Gah. Maybe I should mark it up and re-sell it.

In the meantime: if any of my FlightRising friends would like to borrow the scroll to preview it on their dragons, lemme know.

It looks AMAZING on those Mirrors... but I would say that.

I do like it on Hunter, the off-white & green Mirror. But I reaaaallly don't want to put a 190k scroll on an ungened plentiful. -_- Hunter hasn't had a regular mate in months. He's got a permanent home in my lair -- if nothing else, he's 19th level -- but I don't want a project dragon.

Although I guess a crackle scroll is cheaper than a custom skin, which I was thinking of giving him at one point. c_c

I find crackle almost uniformly hideous. On a few dragons I have seen it look aesthetic... and on some dragons, I can see using it for story purposes (where it makes them look sicky/poisoned, cobwebbed, scarred or covered in blood). But as a "Wow, that's pretty, I want it!" sort of gene it fails for me. :P

I saw several dragons that I thought it looked great on when it was first released, and everyone was gushing over it. Mostly dark dragons with yelow/red tertiaries, I think. I was kind of surprised how little I liked it on my own dragons. c_c

Aside from the bloodsplattered fae, the blue wildclaw is probably the best bet, yeah. Or the yellow/purple or red/orange imperials.

The bloodspattered effect is pretty impressive. Maybe I should get them both crackle and mate them to each other. n_n

I might do the red-orange imp instead of the blue wildclaw. Not sure. Rain's tertiary is obsidian, so doing her probably means i'm stuck finding her a mate in blues with black/shadow/midnight/obsidian tert, if I don't want hideous children. Not that a red-scheme imp is necessarily going to be easier to match. Maybe I will just sell it off. -_-

I haven't played FR in months. How is it these days? A little more developed? Less unstable?

It's a lot more stable than it used to be. The changes have been things like genes and apparel and new coli levels though. Nothing transformative.

A lot more stable, yes -- they still have issues during the elemental festival weeks (the coliseum tends to slow down a lot and the servers will be down entirely for several hours scattered over the first few days) - but for the most part it runs fine. Shock Switch went live so there are three real fairgrounds games now (High Low does not count IMO). Dragon prices on all breeds/genes are approaching exalt levels (you can get imps for under 20,000 now). There have been a bunch of small improvements and enhancements but nothing dramatic.

I dunno, I think it actually looks good on quite a few of them.
