Speed Dating

One of the people I follow on Twitter re-tweeted something like this: "Speed dating: Great. Because listening to a bunch of girls talk about themselves with no possibility of sex is just what I want."

And I thought: "If speed dating pre-screens out people like you, it's way better than I thought."

But I couldn't fit that + context into 140 characters. Also, didn't feel like getting into a twitter fight with some guy who had already demonstrated an alien and unpleasant world view. What a bleak, awful universe he must inhabit.

I just want to say that "because I have difficulty with verbal communication" is a WAY better reason for not trying it than "I am only interested in sex and find the idea that my partner is a person with needs and feelings squicky". Oy.

Oh, I understood what you meant, was just picturing actually trying speed dating myself and being confronted with a woman speaking quickly at me. Scary. ;)

And there would be a test afterward!

I think speed dating is sort of scary anyway. But I have been very lucky when it comes to finding people to see romantically! All of dating is somewhere between incomprehensible and scary to me. :/

The kind of speed dating that's mostly for the sex is called a swing club. :P

I was also thinking "I'm pretty sure there are places you can look for just sex if that's all you wanted" but I couldn't think where. :D

I have the niggling suspicion he would be offended that all the women at a swing club aren't 20-something size 4s, though perhaps I am uncharitable.

I'm not following the original tweeter ... I'm not entirely sure why I'm still following the guy who re-tweeted it. Mostly he talks about wargaming and posts pics of miniatures, which falls between "harmless" and "nifty" in itself.

Because he's been brought up in a society that has begun to encourage the thought that sex has no real meaning other than pleasure for oneself. "If it feels good, do it."

Apparently also with no concept that liking the person you're having sex with will make sex more fun, for that matter. c_c

Speed dating doesn't work for me, as it takes me three minutes to come up with a typical response.
