Why don't you use attack cards? That helps a lot. And the thing with the fighter types is that, to be able to do the same sorts of things as those who DO have attack options of various sorts, they NEED to have, you know, a large number of named options. And even in 3.5e, the previous edition, there were TONS of maneuvers and stuff you could do in melee: Bull Rush, Trip, Overrun, Withdraw, Standard Attack, Full Attack, Disarm, Five Foot Step, Feint, Intimidate to Demoralize, Tumble, etc. etc. etc.
