free online typing test

I was kind of curious about this. I know 45 wpm is unremarkable, but I have to note that I was taking the test on my PHONE.  O:)

I'll have to take it at a computer some time to see how my speed compares at a full keyboard.

(I feel obliged to point out that this test doesn't take into account the most annoying things about typing on this model of keypad: typing numbers, or -- much worse! -- html tags. Also, a lot of the words were only 4 characters, so the character speed rate is probably a better measure -- mine was 243, which is more like 40 wpm by the general standard.)

I got 91, but that was on a computer of course. It'd be faster if I didn't have to keep backspacing to erase mistakes? n.n I was still surprised I did that well, though.

I tried a few times at my work computer, and got results ranging from 45 to 58 wpm. Apparently my keypad and typing speed are actually pretty close. O.O

This does confirm my suspicion that I don't compose significantly faster at the computer as opposed to on my phone. This limiting factor is more the rate at whhich I can decide what to write next and how to phrase it, not so much the speed at which I enter it.

You got that on your PHONE? Impressive!!! I only managed 59 wpm on my first go with a keyboard.

You must have narrow little finger tips: my pudgy paws have such a hard time with touchscreens (assuming, of course, you're using a touchscreen, as opposed to two-thumbing a QWERTY).

I'm using a keypad. I do not understand the smartphone industry's fasicination with virtual keyboards. ("Look, we can save four millimeters of thickness and an ounce at the expense of only 80% of functionality!" "Awesome! DO IT!" O.o )

I'm not particularly fond of touchscreen keypads, either. I'm only willing to put up with the one on my Android because I have a Swype-style keyboard app for it.
