More stories I can barely imagine justifying.

These are things so alien to my experience that part of me feels like they can't even be real. But not only are they, but at various points in history around the world, things very similar to them were considered ... reasonable. Maybe still are. D:

After reading Fritzl's case, when I started reading Garrido's I found my train of thought going, "compared to Fritzl he doesn't seem that bad dear Lord what am I thinking?" o.O

The first two cases are seven kinds of weird, including the Fritzl mother and the tenant who lived with them a dozen years who knew nothing.

The last one, sadly, is all too common.

I don't think there are any cultures where what Fritzl and Garrido did was acceptable ... but it does strike me that the practical difference for the victim between what Garrido did, and a man buying a young girl as his second wife in a country where women have few rights, is not perhaps that great. And that's ... distressingly common, too. :(

I knew Michael before, during and after the Jason Foreman disappearance. We were both hospital volunteers, I sat next to him in Chemistry class, we were both in Jesus Christ Superstar (I was in the chorus, he was Pontius Pilate). I knew he was quiet and a bit strange, but I had no idea... I was in college when he was finally arrested, and it still totally creeps me out.
