Date: 2009-06-24 12:15 am (UTC)I've been thinking about trying to play it 1-player by myself just to see how far it's possible to get without the other players in the way. If I could build a complete farm, I might feel happy that the game has enough turns. If not, I may have to add more houserules than I've already got. ;D

It's interesting because the set up penalizes everyone equally, but there's still something frustrating about not being able to get the space you really need. Adding extras of some of the squares doesn't make the game any more fair, but it can make it more fun. :)

Date: 2009-06-24 07:59 pm (UTC)Someone noticed on the back of the rules book though that there are some alternate and interesting ways to play the game. One that sounded particularly interesting was that you pull X number of Occupation and Minor Improvement cards and draft them around. Another, though it would be fairly lengthy, was to just let each player take a turn drafting out of the complete deck. Another was to draw 10 cards and keep 7, which is much faster than drafting and helps ensure you get a better set of cards. It's become clear to me that getting a good set of Occupations and Minor Improvements is really an important key to doing well in the game.
One other houserule I've been flipping around in my mind is... Just let anyone use any action, even if it's already been used. Then the only thing people are competing over are the buckets.
