Ash is doing much better now than she was two weeks ago. I took her to my regular vet on Tuesday of last week, and he was pretty confident that she had an inner ear infection, and that antibiotics and anti-inflammatories would restore her to a reasonable degree of health. He thought she might always list to the right somewhat, but would regain most of her lost mobility and balance. I also had one of her teeth pulled. "No, I don't want to do dental work on her when she's got all this going on," the vet said.

"No, you don't understand. Look at this tooth."

"Ohhh! I see, yeah, we can take care of that." The tooth was so loose it was sideways in her mouth.

She started eating normally after that: actually, I got her some high-calorie prescription cat food from the vet and she'd gobble that down better than the regular canned stuff, which makes me wonder if I ought to look for a tastier brand of cat food for her or something. I don't think she's eating quite enough normal cat food right now.

I'm still keeping her locked in the bathroom when I'm asleep or at work, but she's moving around better and has gotten very restless. She can manage to jump up and down from the couches now. Last night, she was standing on the arm and then the back of the loveseat for a while. I worry about her doing that because she's still listing to one side and circling some times, but she seemed pretty stable while I was watching her. I might not shut her in the bathroom this weekend and see how she does.

Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and well-wishes. I appreciate it a great deal. <3

Good to hear. In fact, several times I'd thought to ask, then went back wandering through prior entries to see if you'd posted an update, then would get involved... I'd figured that something broke, one way or the other, for your Florida trip. And I was concerned.

I'm happy at the news.

My sister's cat had one tooth left when she was getting old, and had to crunch up the hard cat food very slowly, one piece at a time. She'd usually take the one piece to a different room to work on it for a while...

So, er, tastier cat food might be worthwhile.
