Y'know, until recently I've never had Amazon screw up an order. They've always shipped the right books and Cds when I've ordered them.

Then, last week, for the first time ever, I ordered something from them and didn't get what I'd ordered. Which would not be remotely newsworthy except that what I ordered was an MP3 album, and what they delivered was -- get this -- the wrong MP3 album.

Amazon's downloader gave me "Counterfeit" by Cirrus. At first, I assumed that I'd clicked on the wrong link, but then I noticed that Amazon was recommending "Counterfeit" to me, which made no sense if I'd already bought it. And then I was looking at the "Your Account" section and it showed that I'd bought "Back on a Mission".

I checked my email for Amazon's invoice:

The following item was ordered:

Back On A Mission [MP3 Download], Price: $ 9.90
By: Cirrus
Sold by: Amazon Digital Services, Inc.

So I mentioned this to Amazon, and it's not really a big deal. It's just ... weird. I can see how Amazon could give me the wrong MP3 album -- presumably they've got the album mislinked somewhere. I can even see how they could mess it up without ever realizing that they'd messed it up. But you'd think it would be a lot harder to get physical orders right than electronic ones, and they've always done the former correctly .... O_o

If NASA can screw up by programming the wrong measurement system into a multi-jillion-dollar Martian probe (that crashlanded due to the SNAFU), then Amazon can certainly screw up your order.

I know-I know...that doesn't make you any happier for their SNAFU, but just because things are computerized nowadays doesn't mean things can't be SNAFU'd.

Their customer service is usually pretty good, though, so a quick gripe should get things fixed to your satisfaction.

I hope! };-)
