Found it!

I found the coat twice, in fact. [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar found this store for me, which has the most gorgeous coats. In fact, I hesitate even to link to this store, for now you too will be drooling over exquisitely beautiful but alas, commeasureately expensive, costume coats. Oh, the fwoosh.

And they're perfect, but I hesitate to pay those prices on an impulse buy. Plus, I would have to decide which one I wanted, which is a nigh-impossible task. *covets them all* I've already spent a lot of money this year on clothing, and at some point I need to rein myself in. So I didn't buy anything last night.

This morning, while I was reading webcomics, one of the sites had a link to a Newport News 15% off promotion. I'd already been to the Newport News site looking at jackets -- they have an Edwardian jacket which is nice but not what I'm looking for. I'm pretty sure I got the idea of looking there from [livejournal.com profile] gen, who linked to them a year or two ago when she got a new coat.

Anyway, while I looked at all the coats they had and they didn't have the style I wanted, I had seen a nice blouse that I wanted to get anyway. So I went back there. On a whim, I clicked on their "Great Fall Sale" link.

And there, at the bottom, was the coat. It's not in the same league with the Kristi Smart coats (*swoon*) but it's pretty much the right look and is in my original price range.

While I was at the site, I noticed they had a "Fall's Romantic Blouses" link, which brought me to an array of lovely old-fashioned blouses with ruffled fronts and lace cuffs. Woo! My kind of clothing is in fashion again! I must buy some before it goes out of style. This happened a few years ago when peasant blouses briefly became stylish. It's always a pleasant surprise for me when one of my prefered types of clothing starts showing up in mainstream stores. It doesn't happen very often.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for your suggestions and help! I really appreciate it. Even if I am still drooling over the Kristi Smart coats. I may yet save my pennies for one of those ... possibly in a different color than black. If it's possible to have too many black jackets, then I do. Especially now that I've added one more to the collection. :)

Wow.

Oh man, those look good. I've never dressed up really snappy before, it looks kinda fun. o_o Of course, like you say with waiting for fashions to come back, I'm still waiting for hooded cloaks, robes, and pointy, broad-brimmed hats to come back. :P

Someday, I will be able to afford to do stuff like this!

I would love to wear a really big hat. :) I don't like hats much, but I'd like those.

I actually have been seeing some big and weird hats coming back into vogue, but it's mostly jester hats and big Cat in the Hat style rave hats. :( Wizard hats would be great, and practical too! Gotta keep the sun off, y'know. :)

I've told her she should have a cool ren-dress, and I could get a rakish highwayman getup for the local faires. :D We could all get together and be a disreputable bunch of blackguards!

Longing!

I know it's terribly overdone, but I'd love to have a coat like Neo's (http://www.abbyshot.com/products/ps-lobby-reloaded-wool.php) from The Matrix Reloaded. Abbyshot Clothiers (http://www.abbyshot.com/index.php) has some really great coats. Everything from Kill Bill (http://www.abbyshot.com/products/ps-kill-bill-jacket.php) to Vash the Stampede (http://www.abbyshot.com/products/ps-stampede-duster.php) to Grammaton Clerics (http://www.abbyshot.com/products/ps-cleric.php) to Browncoats (http://www.abbyshot.com/products/ps-firefly-browncoat.php) to whatever. But they're fatally expensive.

I used to think the Neo kinda coats were cool, until those psychos at Columbine went and gave them a bad name. And the movie "Grandma's Boy" didn't help matters any. (Yeah, I sat through that on DVD. I'm not proud.)

Hey, this morning in the Orlando Sentinel, there was a fashion article on "Pirate Couture". Apparently, as declared by the Orlando Sentinel, dressing up like a pirate is *IN*, and there were photos to prove it.

(Alas, I cannot find the article on their web site.)

Just because something's popular doesn't mean it's (necessarily) bad! ;)

Mah mama says "Trendy is as trendy does"...

Not to say that you necessarily struggle with this or anything, but this note reminded me of it anyway:

I'm working on tempering my anti-bandwagon mentality (that being my sometimes irrational urge to avoid something based almost solely on the premise that everyone and their third cousin is into it.) Once in a great while, the vast unwashed masses get it right. ';)

I've even allowed MySpace to sully my hard drive on more than one occasion. ':P
