I like the way the last panel came out. Look! A background! This one doesn't count so much, though, because it was a plot-relevant background. Where the background was important to the story, I drew it in on my first pass. In other cases, especially for the last 10 pages, I went back and drew in some background elements just to make the white space less glaring. But, hey, it was a 24 hour comic, none of the backgrounds were really inspired. Now, "Girl Genius", that has background elements that are rewarding to look at. :9

The point of a 24 hour comic is not to be good, it's to get it done and see what you are capable of. There is no shame in taking what you created and fixing it at a later time, or even redoing it. Inspiration from any source is fair game. Who can fault stealing from yourself?

Who would have thought that the faeries had an army? Perhaps they come from Middle Earth after all.

The gate looks like it is made of fire, but the lateral symmetry implies that it is merely metal sculpted in that shape. Wouldn't it have been cool to have a gate of real fire?

Not just an army, but a national anthem! And enlistment drives... and politics...

Faegate about it. ];-)

The Guardians of the Gate have a certain "Flying Monkeys from Oz" feel. Since those flying monkeys were mataphors for native Americans in the original story, and since native Americans are considered these days to be the Guardians of the Trees, this all ties together nicely.

That gate does an interesting optical trick. The "teeth" at the entrance seem clearly two dimensional -- but the curving verticals on either side keep suddenly changing perspective to being walkways on the surface.

I am quite enjoying this!
