Back at work, more or less. Well, I'm physically at my workplace but not necessarily doing a great job of working. I called a nearby Barnes & Noble yesterday and found that they did have a copy of Howl's Moving Castle, so I bought that yesterday. As Lut and I were standing before the cash register with $30 of books in our arms, I commented to him, "You know, part of the reason I wanted to pick it up in person was so that I wouldn't be tempted to buy more than $25 of books online in order to get free shipping."

I brought Howl's to work with me today, which was probably a mistake because now I want to read it instead of working. I often forget between readings just how much I like some books. Howl's was one of the major inspirations for Silver Scales, although I like to think they're very different works. Anyway, I'm devouring it eagerly for the third time.

I did manage to get a couple of entries for Silver Scales done this weekend, but it was more a week for doing artwork than writing. I joined [livejournal.com profile] paperspace yesterday so that Peace and Joy could roam around a bit more, since they haven't quite gone out of my head since I finished the 24-hour comic.

I'd like to do some more artwork. I had fun doing a bunch of icons for [livejournal.com profile] queenofstripes. It's nice to do artwork that other people will use. A couple of years ago, I did an art trade with [livejournal.com profile] bard_bloom: I did a portrait of Sythyry and it sent me a pottery bowl (and a bonus pottery dragon and face!) in return. It's a great bowl, too; Lut and I use it all the time.

I think that's the only art trade I've ever done, and it'd be cool to do another. Is anyone interested? It doesn't have to be art for art: I'd be happy to trade art for anything: pottery or a story or a font set or cookies or candy or whatever. I'm not concerned about it being an especially equitable art trade, I'm just in the mood to do some more drawing (and probably more subpar inking, while I'm at it). Leave me a comment if you're interested. :)

(Mmm, candy -- that reminds me, I wanted to do an icon for [livejournal.com profile] sophrani!)

I'd be happy to do a trade for some hand rolled incense if you are interested!

Yes, please! The offer of candy-for-icon-artwork still stands. :-)

Wow, thanks so much! Lightweight or no, I like them. :-)

The only problem is...I'll have to do a bit of re-sizing. LJ says they're both over 40K and won't upload them as user pictures! Grrrr.

So give me the evening and I'll probably have them up after dinner.

Yay! They uploaded just fine this time, as you can see. Thanks again!

Your payment should be on its way very soon... :-9

I would paint pottery for you, since you say you don't mind if it's not equitable and I'm new at painting, but if you go to www.saplings.us/gallery and go to album5, you can see my favorite two items that I've painted (one was painted and mosaiced, or however you spell the past tense of mosaic, though I can't afford to mosaic anything right now). I'll try to get a photo of the mug with my self portrait on it soon, too.

If you buy enough books on Amazon, one option is to pay $79/year and get free two day shipping on all orders of any size (direct from Amazon -- 3rd party vendors with links to Amazon aren't included).

Yeah. Good gravy! If I even thought that I would be spending $79 a year in just SHIPPING, I should seriously revisit my expenditures. ;)

***** INCOMING MESSAGE *****

You're always welcome to contribute anything to the BarbX Program. Pictures of any of the characters or equipment, logos or critiques are appreciated. In particular, I am in need of a face. Something digital might not be your style, but perhaps a picture in the style of an OS-tan would be a better use of your skills.

You know the sort of things I can provide in return.

Would you be interested in any sort of collaborative effort? I.e., I do pencils, you do inks, or you do pencils, I do inks. That sort of thing. It's been a long time since I did anything like that. =)

Splendid! For some reason, I seem to have more fun inking someone else's pencils than I do inking my own. Probably it's related to the idea that I seem to have more fun tidying up a friend's house than I do tackling my own. (But then, it could just be that I have more JUNK than most of my friends.)
