When I got up, she wasn't in bed with us, like she normally is. She was under the office table. She purred when I pet her, but she wouldn't follow me when I got up. I brought her into the kitchen and offered her a fresh can of food. She didn't touch it. She hadn't touched the cat milk from last night, either.

I forced a little liquid into her (she used the litterbox last night, so I guess she must've drank something during the last 24 hours, but neither Lut nor I have seen her do so.) She struggled with me.

It's funny how, even on the day Branl died, when she would sleep in the litterbox and wouldn't move from the cat room, Branl still had the energy to fight me when I tried to forcefeed her. It's like they're fighting to die.

After I let her go, Ash went and hid under the bed. She wouldn't come out. I was going to leave her alone, but then I decided to haul her out anyway, and hold her while I ate breakfast and read LJ. If she's going to die, I don't want my last memory of her to be fighting and frustration.

Now she's napping on my lap, purring quietly.

Maybe I'll go in to work a little late today.

Salmon soup.

When Cuddles was at her worst and wouldn't eat ANYTHING at all, my could get a little into her by making salmon soup. Take a little bit of tinned salmon and mix it up with enough warm water to make it slurry or very soupy.... Cuddles would at least drink some of the water, and nibble a wee bit of the fish.

The worry is that cats, when they quit eating.... the longer they go without food, the less they feel like eating, eventually they can starve themselves to death. So it's important to try to get her to take something everyday.

Oh another trick that can work.... jarred baby food, the just meat kind (not the stews or meat and veggie, just plain beef or chicken), or even cooked chicken livers ground up in the blender, you can use warm water and make a soup out of these too. If she won't drink it on her own, it should be thin inenough to pour into a small teapot or a large syinge (without the needle) and force feed her a little bit.

Hope this helps, Keeping dear kitty in my thoughts.

Well at least with liquids like this (and the milk), you can more easily force feed her a little bit, (I use the spout of a tea pot, but I've also used needleless large syringes and spoons), which you might have to do to stimulate her appetite a bit if she's been off her food for a few days. Even if all you get in is a couple teaspoons, it'll help get her tummy and her appetite working again.
