Counting My Blessings

I was thinking about all the things that are going right in my life, and I thought I'd list some of them off -- big and small.

[If this were a meme, I would give it just one rule: no "buts" or "howevers" or "althoughs". The idea is to count my blessings, not qualify them.]

1. I have a wonderful boyfriend, Lut. He's financially responsible, smart, patient with me, and sympathetic. He also appreciates me lots and tells me I'm great, which, you know, never hurts. ;)


2. I have a truly awesome collection of friends, some of whom I've met in person. *hugs you all*


3. I get to read Schlock Mercenary. Hey -- it's better than it sounds. Come to think of it, it's better than it's drawn, too.


4. I work with great people at a great bank -- you know, that sounds like an advertisement or some PR thing from human resources , but it's actually true. I'm good at what I do, my boss appreciates me, and I get paid more than enough money for my needs.


5. I've saved enough money that I can afford to buy a house and put 20% down on it. And while I'd obviously like to get a good deal on it and save money in the long run over renting, a bad deal -- even a very bad deal -- will only alter my rate of savings, not harm my lifestyle.


6. One of my friends, when I suggested he count his blessings, responded with, "Um ... may I use scientific notation?" And I'm blessed to have the sort of friend that would make that comment.


7. I'm glad I'm the sort of person who finds that comment amusing, too.


8. It doesn't bother me that I'm not yet to the level of requiring scientific notation to count the items on this list. That's OK.


9. I have never, in my whole life, made a fatal error. Or one that killed anyone else, for that matter.


10. I have an ample supply of Diet Coke at hand. Mmm, Diet Coke.


11. I'm doing a lot better than "Knightrider" this time around.


12. I have a cat who comes when I call, and loves petting and cuddling better than anything in the world. Including cat food.


13. My thin cat weighs 4.5 lbs now, which is a whole pound more than she weighed at her thinnest. Hey, don't laugh, that's a gain of 25% for her! (I put her on special high-calorie, high-fat cat food to plumpen her up, which I feed to her a tablespoon at a time whenever I'm in the kitchen and she's willing to eat -- can't leave it out or Fat Cat will scarf it.)


14. I got my loveseat back from the repair people, and it's fixed and comfy and Lut and I can cuddle and watch Babylon 5 in front of our computers again.


15. It's Saturday and there are a bunch of new posts on my LJ friends list. Whee! I'm not the only weekend poster.


16. I don't have to go to work tomorrow. (It may be a good job but I don't like it that much.)


17. Lut doesn't have to go to work tomorrow, either.


18. I write fiction and other people actually like to read it.


19. I can draw/paint things that other people enjoy seeing.


20. koogrr likes me. I mean, so do a lot of people; I just felt like singling him out. Hi Koogrr!


21. I have the best parents in the whole world.


22. Lut and I still have three episodes from season three of Babylon 5 left to watch.


23. Season four will be released in January, and then we'll have 22 more to see.


24. When season five comes out, we'll finally get to see how the show ended. (No spoilers, please!)


25. I have a nice warm bed, and I'm sleepy. So I'll go to sleep after adding just one more thing to this list:


26. I can think of more things to add to this list.

5. I'm very impressed. But you've always been revoltingly responsible with money. Why can't I be more like you?

25. I'm glad I have your nice warm bed, too! We sleep in it every night ;) You would love my room -- two kings side by side for a grand total of twelve feet of bed for only four people!

I had a friend who once tried to give up Diet Coke for Lent. Halfway through the effort, she abandoned it, saying, "I have enough problems in my life already, without giving up the one good thing I can count on." :D

(And she did have a whole lot of misfortunes going on at the time.)
