Well done. :) Oddly, I didn't even think of this as a clue for the reader. I just knew what was happening inside the box, and described it accordingly.
I really like it. Fantasy, so far -- although a tweak in the tail would make it science fiction or you could play it for SF.
Mmm. I suppose that Cora does not have a scientific explanation for her ability does not preclude the existence a scientific explanation. Though I'm afraid I honestly have no idea how to explain what she can do as anything more than pseudo-science, at best. Even if I invoke aliens, molecular re-assembly, or hyperspace, there are still questions like "And where does the energy to do this come from?"
