Huh... Yes, games flare up and peter out... I've yet to play a game that came to an actual conclusion or such. And I have to say, one of the ones we're currently playing, and which I'm enjoying more than any other, ever, was supposed to be a casual affair where people can drop in and out as needed, for those weeks when we couldn't get the one or other regular group together for something else. Then we started it off by playing three days straight, and it's ended up not casual at all! :-)
What I really dislike... how do I put this? I really don't like it when a system tells me what to do. As in, when the rules are super-rigid and there are character classes that come with built in options and under no circumstances are you allowed to deviate from the one true path... or something. I like systems where I can do whatever I want with my character- within reason, of course. And I also dislike systems that force complications on you. I think complications and the like should come around during play.
