The last several times I've gone to Costco, the display of giant plasma screen TVs has been showing Tangled, which prompted me to decide to watch it again from Netflix.

It is a film with distinct flaws as well as strengths. But on watching it again, I was struck by the climactic moment when Eugene cuts Rapunzel's hair. That moment -- even though I resent that the Rapunzel has to lose her magic hair -- that captures the single bravest act I have ever seen in a Disney film. And it's all the more striking because it is so simple, because Eugene isn't facing down a dragon or giant or even the witch. He's simply freeing Rapunzel, in the only way he can.
