okojosan and gneech linked to Tracy Butler's expression tutorial, which is quite well done. This led me to checking out her comic, Lackadaisy.

Lackadaisy is not the best comic I've ever read. It is, however, far and away the best illustrated comic I have ever seen. It's mind-bogglingly detailed and meticulously shaded. The backgrounds. ZOMG THE BACKGROUNDS. Just look at this college campus. Almost every panel has an actual background -- not just a few lines, not just simple pieces of furniture, but everything, down to the pictures hanging on the walls.

It seems to update around once or twice a month, which isn't surprising given how much time it must take to do each of those pages. It's just. Wow. I would be bored to distraction drawing one panel with that much detail. I can't imagine having done hundreds of them. Amazing work.

I was putting together a post on the tutorial, as she did an excellent job.

She is deadly serious about historical accuracy. Sometime she fudges, but she always explains.

The comic is exquisitely done, and rather irregular. Such wonderful work takes time.

There's video that someone did, a full on animation of a few of her characters. It's not part of her story line, but was well-done -- sort of "inspired by Lackadaisy" in style, and rendered in CGI.

Wow! Fantastic artwork. Even if the "Roaring '20s" wasn't one of the eras that fascinate me, I'd want to read this for the art alone. Thanks for putting this up; I know what I'm going to spend the next few hours doing...

I would like Lackadaisy more if I didn't miss the author's human characters from the fantasy book she was working on.

I like her feline and human versions both of the characters from Lackadaisy. I admit, I'm curious why she decided to do felines rather than humans, since she strikes me as equally skillful with either.

Do you have a link for the fantasy-book-in-progress, or is it not available online?

She seems to be taking the site down, but I did find her old gallery for it buried in an exposed directory structure.

The author's research on the 1920s seems pretty solid, down to apologizing for using anachronisms from the 1930s on a couple of occasions. :)

She's so good at drawing people. It's not that I don't like her furries, but the people were more impressive.
