The heck? I'd expect petting zoo animals to have rabies vaccinations so you wouldn't have to go through this nonsense every time someone got bitten.

I don't know -- maybe there isn't a rabies vaccine for lemurs? I'm not sure if the same vaccine works for all animals. :(
