I know what you mean about "unfamiliar setting". Running a World Tree game is weird because -- even having done the required reading -- I often feel like there's stuff from the setting I'm not portraying casually enough. Magic isn't at all rare, but how ubiquitious should enchantments be? Are there things people would never bother doing by hand because they'd use magic instead, or would they rather conserve magic for more important things? Or just do it by hand because they ran out of the day's cley and are too busy/impatient to wait for tomorrow? O.o

I'm surprised I got as many takers on the game as I did, actually. But most of them were already fans of Sythyry and the setting already, so it was more of the hand-up that you talk about getting from fanfic than an obstacle. :)
