Health/Fitness

I realized partway through April that my continuing "eating while not hungry" habits were starting to get out of hand, so I reined it in a bit towards the end of the month. We'll see if that lasts.

Wasn't exercising much for most of the month. On the 26th and 27th, I went for a long walk early in the morning while the weather was nice, but dropped the habit before it stuck. I did make my goal of "at least some movement on 20 days during the month", though. 17 times of actual exercise at some level, and 3 times of stretching or otherwise minimal activity.

Writing

Somehow or other, I actually made my "40% complete" goal on The Jewel-Strewn Night, despite neglecting it for most of April. This is partly because I lowballed this goal. Also, I have a super-detailed outline for much of this book, so it's relatively easy to write the book. Draft is at 32,800 words and 40% done now, up from 20% and about 16,600 words. So 16,200 words this month. Book is still shaping up to be around 80,000 words.

I also wrote a lot of Apothecaria in April. It's up to 30,900 words, from 6,100 at the end of March. Yes, I wrote much more fanfic/journaling game than I did original fiction. As one might expect, being a game makes it more fun. :D I've been illustrating the journal and posting it to mastodon.art/@rowyn, and to my Apothecaria album on Flickr because that organizes better as an archive than Mastodon does. I got an account on a pixelfed instance and may at some point try putting the archive there instead of using Flickr. Partly because pixelfed is Fediverse-compatible and I like having different sites that can talk to each other, and also because Flickr is ancient, corporate-owned, and relatively unpopular, which adds up to "its owners might pull the plug on it rather than let it continue to roll along indefinitely."

On the other hand, LJ is even older and more-crumbling and still around, so maybe Flickr will make it to the 22nd century, who knows.

As mentioned last month, I was thinking about cross-posting my Apothecaria entries to Dreamwidth. I finally decided that Flickr makes a better archive for it (and is better-designed for uploading and displaying images, since that's all it does). Also, I post an Apothecaria entry every day and I use my Dreamwidth a few times a month, so my DW would become All Apothecaria All the Time and it'd be a bit much. My mastodon.art has also kind of become All Apothecaria All the Time as it is. But I do post to mastodon.art much more frequently than DW. Moreover, I actually use my Dreamwidth as an archive: I often search through it for old posts and to remember what I did and when. I don't dig through old mastodon.art posts because there's a lot more ephemeral cruft and the search tools are limited.

The Business of Writing

I finished initial edits on Alien Peacelords and sent it to first readers, huzzah. I don't think I did anything else business-like in April.

Art

I illustrated, idk, 32 Apothecaria entries in April? I've been posting one a day and got ahead by two on illustrations, and have managed to maintain that lead.

That's just the illustrations. I'm much further ahead on writing them. I think I've posted about half of what I've written. The writing part is the game; it's easy. I will probably need to take a break from daily posting so that I can devote some time to finishing the cover for Alien Peacelords.

Gaming

I already talked about Apothecaria in two other categories so it's redundant to talk about it here. But that Apothecaria fits into so many categories that I like to track no doubt explains some of my fascination with it.

Reading

I read most of what [personal profile] tuftears's has posted so far of Alien Tastes (a locked serial) in April. I caught up to the current entry on Tuesday so now I have to find something else to read. Currently re-reading Bard Bloom's Disintegration but that's not gonna last me long at this rate. I also started an incomplete fanfic by [personal profile] terrycloth that he let me have access to. Oh, and I'm current on a work-in-progress by [personal profile] catofalltrades, too.

Presumably I'll read some published books again at some point but idk, I haven't been bouncing off the unpublished stuff like I lately do with books that have promising blurbs. c_c

Goal Scorecard for Prior Month

  • Help Lut: Done!
  • Keep in touch with Terry: Done!
  • Exercise 13 times (aerobic): Done! 17 times.
  • At least 7 more times of “exercise” that can be just stretching for five minutes Done
  • Make entries in bullet journal for at least 20 days: Technically. I fell way behind but more-or-less back-filled the important bits. I illustrated Apothecaria entries almost every day so those were easy to reconstruct. The rest is pretty hand-wavey.
  • Look at goal list & schedule occasionally: Done, although I think "occasionally" was "twice", this time.
  • Complete edits on Alien Peacelords and send to first readers: Done!
  • Get The Jewel-Strewn Night to 40% complete: Just barely, but good enough
  • File taxes Done!

Stretch goals:

  • Consumption tracking: Done
  • Practice art (bonus stretch goal: total of 15 hours of practice): Overkilled if I count Apothecaria illustrations, which I absolutely am counting. My estimate is 35 hours.
  • Complete a painting that isn’t just a copy of a single CC 0 reference: Counting Apothecaria illustrated entries for this, too.
  • Play Apothecaria: Yes I listed this as a stretch goal because I knew I'd be doing it anyway.
  • Illustrate Apothecaria entries: Same for this one. n_n
