Glamour in Glass by Mary Robinette Kowal

I enjoyed this one more than the previous one. I am not sure if this is because it was more to my taste, or if the contrast with the formula Regency romances I'd recently read made it come off that much better than when I was contrasting it with the Jane Austen novels I'd read shortly before Shades of Milk and Honey. Whichever is the case, the setting was well-realized. The characters traveled from England to Belgium during the novel, and one had a real sense of the change of location. I liked that the female protagonist came off as smart and capable while still belonging to her era. The male protagonist was given a handful of additional talents that did not really seem necessary and made him feel a bit less real to me, but overall I'll give it an 8.

I read this book yesterday and didn't finish anything over the weekend. D: I think I may be somewhat resentful of the novels I've got on hand for not being the last book in the Demon trilogy, which still hasn't come in. On Saturday, I started an sf novel that completely failed to grab my attention. I am not going to name it because (a) I don't want to review books I didn't finish and (b) I don't even think there's anything wrong with it; it's just not engaging me. I may give it another chance later, or I may return it unread. I picked a fantasy novel to read today; this one is a doorstopper, so it may take me until tomorrow to finish it even at my recent pace.
