Iconography (or: Because Polls Are Fun! Right?)

So I got a permanent account last week. That means I can upload up to a hundred icons.

I'd never gotten around to using all fifteen of the icon slots I had before; I've got thirteen.

They're all pictures of me.

There's a reason why I'm using pictures of myself for all my icons, but it's not a very good reason. I started back when I only had three slots on my free account, and I was too lazy to draw anything so I just scanned a few pictures of myself.

Then I got a paid account, and briefly once again contemplated drawing icons for myself. And didn't for a few months, so I finally thought "Oh, forget it, I'm putting up a bunch more pictures of myself."

And now I have eighty-seven more empty icon slots.

Eighty-seven.

I really should use them for something. But my mind revolts at the notion of uploading eighty-seven more 100x100 pixel versions of myself. Yeah, I may be vain, but I'm not that vain.

Ahem. Anyway.

I've always wanted to have a thematic set of icons: all of the same character in different poses/expression. I like my icon to be a recognizable representation of me, so that even if I add a new icon, anyone who sees it would still be able to think at a glance, "Yes, that's rowyn.

But ... a hundred pictures of the same character/person, in different poses? 'Course, I don't have to use them all. But where's the fun in that?

I'm not sure what I'll do, but I'm open to suggestions. And I even made a poll to make suggesting easier, although I'm not sayin' I'll go with whatever wins the poll. :)

Pick an avatar and draw some icons already.

I chose this option because...wait, what was it you said about drawing in your last entry? Oh yeah - that's it's fun for you right now. So why not just take that feeling and roll with it? ;-)

(As for me, I just yoink icon material from other places, since I can't draw at all. As you can see from the shiny new icon posted here.)

Sorry about that. I was just thinking that I should've put in some non-denigrating versions of the same prompts, or different motives for the same answers. I guess I was in a self-denigrating mood when I did the post. You could leave a comment with your preference expressed in nicer terms. :)

Heehee! Actually, the trouble is that it's not as much fun when I'm drawing for myself, alas. I should do some lynxie-icons for you, that'd be more fun. Although the text on that one you yoinked is quite cute. :)

You did such lovely work with the icons you did for me, I couldn't imagine you not doing it for yourself - if you're having trouble with the initial avatar image - ask your friends.

Personally I see you as a bird, nothing as dark as a raven, maybe a little barn owl, or a sparrow or swift....

I had the same thought. Perhaps if I commissioned her to do icons for herself ... what do you think? Then she'd be doing it for someone else, right? And it would be O.K. then. ];-)

I don't actually have much practice drawing birds. Usually when I've thought of avatars for myself, it's either dragons or mammals. When I was younger, I strongly identified with cats (and used the handle 'Cat' on the local computer network when I was in college) but cats were so ubiquitious in the furry fandom that I drifted away from it.

I still do identify with dragons, but I never think when I'm looking at a picture of a dragon 'That's me'.

I'd ask what the difference between a "paid" and "permanent" account is, but I'm sure there's an available FAQ if I'm all that curious.
