I'm surprised that you consider the window so limited. I realize you like cool weather and that Florida is to hot much of the time. But bear in mind that *I* am only likely to be skating outside for four or five months of the year, tops, too. I dunno anywhere that the weather can be considered "nice" year round. Though you might like English weather rather well: cool and rainy, I gather, much of the year. :)
Anyway, I can't say that I'd recommend the two of you investing in skates/gear right off the bat. I'd make sure you both like it, first. You might look into skating rinks and see if any will rent you inline skates, for example.
You can also skate *indoors*, for that matter. Where it's air-conditioned. I dunno if there's any place around you that would be suitable for it. I used to skate around the U of A campus, occasionally, but I don't think the management was wild about that. :)
