All About the Boobies!

One of my friends (who shall remain nameless since the post was friends-locked) linked to a rather nifty site about breasts -- in particular, their gallery of nude images of women's chests. (Link NSFW, although the photos are simply referential, not sexual.)

The site's own text tends towards the preachy (and the writing is a bit odd, puts me in mind of ESL students). But the images of ordinary women's breasts -- not airbrushed, not propped up, not surgically lifted or enlarged -- are quite interesting. As are the women's own comments about their breasts, which range from cheerfully candid to heartbreaking. The main point is to give more women an idea of what normal chests look like, so that we don't all end up thinking our breasts are weird and misshapen because they don't look like the ones in Playboy.

Which ... well, I don't know that I've ever thought my breasts were misshapen. But they are very saggy, and I'm kind of self-conscious about that. It wasn't until fairly recently that I realized a key thing about firm, perky breasts: they actually are firm. As in, not soft and squishy. And I rather like the way my chest feels even if I don't like the way it looks. So I'm pretty reconciled to my boobs these days, even if ideally I'd rather the nipples didn't point at my feet.

A year or two back I saw a porn film where most of the actresses had implants, and the implants were really obvious. Not just in the artificially perfect shape, but the way they bounced was ... all wrong. It's sad, really.

The site also reminded me how much it bugs me that some people think babies shouldn't be breastfed in public. :(

Anyway, the gallery is neat in its own right, and also a good reference for artists who'd like to get an eye for the range of normal human female breasts, as opposed to the picture-perfect standard one generally sees even in nudes, even artistic rather than pornographic ones.

The most important thing is that they are healthy and aren't so big they hurt your back.
I feel sorry for women with large breasts. It might be a great novelty at first, but eventually they become a pain in the neck, and back.

we live in a interesting society. so much is placed on to the breast. Some people are not happy with what they are given. Look at Sheyla Hershey, a woman who had a dream of getting her breast to a size 38kkk. It was her dream to have the worlds largest breast implants. why? i don't think there is really a good answer. i often have thought breast in a lot of sci-fi art looked as if they was using a implant model as a source.

as for you my dear, i think you have a great looking body. one that i love to see when i get to see you. you are always a highlight to a con. (wished i got to spend a little more time with you at contra, but i was running around like a chicken with my head cut off....)

it went well, made around $260.00 for room con. tho it was a little slow and i ended up closing to go do a smooth. i hope that i will have enough to do room con correctly. You must come to next years contra. i am artist guest and it will be susans last year to be running the con. i want to give her a good crowd for the last one she is going to run....

the lady that did the 38kkk breast had to go out of country to get it done. 11 surgeries. it almost didn't happen because the state she lives in has a law against how much silicon can be placed in to a body...

A few somebody elses have already soundly beat her. Google "silly string implants" and be prepared to cringe in horror. I guess it makes them a lot of money, but ouch. Ouch ouch ouch.

Interesting site, thanks for passing it along.

And

As for what's normal being put into words, all I can add is...

Gravity rules the realm.

Have the best

Heh. Remember the idea for a super heroine comic that you had regarding breasts and the modern comics penchant for drawing them large and rather gravity defying?

Yeap. :)

Thanks for posting this. Very educational! As a comic-book artist I fit into the category of people who know absolutely nothing about real human breasts. :-)

As someone whose housemate makes her living altering brassieres and selling books on the subject, I have received an education.

I had no idea that most women are probably wearing the wrong size bra, for example, and the interpretations for "realistic" breasts and lingerie at Second Life are unintentionally hilarious.
