Separation of Powers

The thing that struck me as neat about this article is that the Justice Department is arguing in favor of a law that the administration opposes.

This is not schizophrenic. It's good. Because that's one of the things the executive branch is supposed to do -- enforce laws. Whether the people in the executive branch like the law in question or not is immaterial: it is their duty to enforce the law. I don't like the law in question either, but it still makes me happy to see the system working the way it's supposed to.

I've definately been worried by the tendency lately (like, the last decade) for the people in government to treat the rules as technicalities to bend as far as they can get away with. I don't see that getting better in general lately, though, even if it might be getting better in specific here.
