I would really like if I could pin down the factors so I'd know which I was doing. It occurs to me that I've written both kinds -- torture that's intended to repulse and torture to titillate -- and I know that it works that way for me (ie, I hate the first kind and don't even want to edit them, and enjoy the second kind). But I have no idea if my readers would feel the same way. O_O
