By "synchronous", I mean when participants are all playing at the same time and concentrating primarily on the game -- eg, at a tabletop, or on a MUCK, or via Skype, or whatever."Asynchronous" means the participants are playing at different times from one another, as in a PBEM or forum game, where participants aren't expecting immediate responses to their actions.
